The conversion of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide is the catalytic step in the production of sulfuric acid. Süd-Chemie’s SulfoMax® (C 116) series of catalysts feature different formulations and innovative shapes, covering all operating conditions in the sulfuric acid process. Whether the preferred outcome is to reduceing emission, increaseing productivity, maximizeing energy recovery, decreaseing pressure drop or extending catalyst lifetime, SulfoMax is the product of choice.

SulfoMax® RR

SulfoMax RR is an all-purpose catalyst used in the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide for the manufacture of sulfuric acid made from sulfur burning plants or metallurgical off-gas based plants or spent acid regeneration units. Its unique formulation in combination with a ‘Ribbed’ ring, forms better overall conversion. Its physical integrity benefits the user in terms of reduced screening losses year on year, thereby offering increased life while maintaining activity.

SulfoMax® HV

SulfoMax HV is a special purpose catalyst that is recommended for loading in passes before the intermediate absorption in DCDA plants. Its enhanced active ingredient offers improved conversion at higher SO3 environments. It can also improve conversion in Single absorption plants where there is no intermediate removal of SO3.

SulfoMax® Cs/CV

Cesium promoted variants of SulfoMax is proven in the market to substantially improve conversion because of its low temperature activation. This variant of SulfoMax offers double benefit to its users. Due to its low temperature activation capability, the desired forward reaction, i.e, formation of SO3 is triggered and the equilibrium yield is improved so it may result in improving the overall conversion across all passes and reducing the stack emission. Besides this, by activating the reaction at much lower temperatures, enhanced energy recovery, in terms of higher steam generation is possible.
